This is what happens with direct election of senators. Many of the worst are from smaller states (think Sanders, Biden, Romney) where they are a "big fish in a small pond" and reliably socialist. Also, they don't need to worry about campaigning because out-of-state money gets them elected. At least with the state legislatures choosing senators, the senators had the states' interests in mind. Today, that's not necessary-most are globalist-socialist, unconcerned about their states.
