(Rom 8:6) Here Paul is speaking about two different ways a person chooses to think about the scriptures and how one thinks produces the actions they make. We want to have actions that bring good fruit to our lives and it all starts with the way we see God.
To be carnal according to the Strong’s dictionary is referring to mankind’s human ways of understanding which is always going to be a literal perspective. This definition uses words like flesh to bring a comparison of how flesh is on the surface of humans, animals and vegetation which is how we see things at a surface level.
God dwells in the spirit realm and He is a spirit. So if we try to see God from a human perspective we will never truly understand Him and be able to establish a relationship with Him.
