SURRENDER
David Wilkerson 1931-2011
“If you are saved, the Holy Spirit has already been given to you. Now ask him to take over, surrender to him! You have to determine in your heart that you want him to lead and guide you. Moses, speaking of the latter days, said, But if from thence thou shalt seek the Lord thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul” Deuteronomy 4:29
@HymnRevival777 Not true! The Bible teaches that the Holy Spirit comes separate of accepting the Lord, confessing our faith and being Christian. The apostles, who were there with Jesus Christ, were saved and received the Holy Spirit at Pentecost which happened 40 days AFTER Jesus Christ died. Where the apostles not saved until then? (Acts 2:4)
Consider Acts 8
14 Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had RECEIVED (accepted Jesus Christ) the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:
15 Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:
16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)
17 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.
Note, though they had accepted Jesus Christ' message, only those who were baptized received the Holy Spirit. Peter and John had to lay hands on these believers BEFORE they could receive the Holy Spirit.
Just saying, it does not happen (always) when one accepts the message of the Word (Jesus Christ; John 1:1).
Sorry brother but the scripture says in Ephesians 1:13 "In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise," Romans 8:9 says "9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his." & John 3:16 says "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Please re-read Acts 10:42-48,Romans 8,John 3 to name a few. Your understanding of Acts 8:16 is incorrect because it's out of context. This is a special circumstance; by waiting for Peter and John to arrive, the Holy Spirit validates the faith of the Samaritans to the apostles, and validates to the Samaritans that they are joining the official church that Jesus originated.
