U.S. Airstrikes Prompt Plans for Yemeni Ground Offensive Against Houthis

Following a month-long U.S. air campaign targeting Houthi forces, Yemeni pro-government militias, backed by the UAE, are preparing a ground offensive to retake parts of the Red Sea coast, including the strategic port of Hodeidah.

This follows a month-long U.S. air campaign, which launched over 350 strikes since March 15, targeting Iran-backed Houthi forces in retaliation for attacks on Red Sea shipping.

A full offensive may reignite dormant civil war.

Saudi Arabia refuses to rejoin any invasion, fearing a repeat of its costly Yemen campaign. The U.S. is open to supporting a local-led ground operation but won’t lead it.
