Big Muddy
The Big Muddy wolf pack was confirmed as a pack in 2022. According to the 2023 annual population survey, the pack had a minimum count of one wolf and was not considered a pack or a successful breeding pair in 2023 (see pages 58-59 in the state’s Wolf Conservation and Management Plan for a description of a successful breeding pair). The Big Muddy wolf pack is the first wolf pack documented in the South Cascades and Northwest Coast wolf recovery region since wolves returned to Washington.

This is the Wolf pack for my specific part of the county in South/Central Wa, with 6 pair of breeding wolves to be introduced yearly until man ceases to interfere. Wolves never left this area, but were content to remain in the higher elevations mostly. No more.
A local cattle rancher lost 8 young Heifers recently to confirmed wolf kills. That cost him more than $50k in losses for the calves those heifers would have generated. Fish & Wildlife refused to compensate for any part of that loss. Our Sheriff, Bob Songer, pressured them into relocating the collared wolf which killed to another area at a cost of $40k paid for by Fish & Wildlife. They are arrogant & indifferent to the losses suffered by farmers & ranchers. We already face unafraid cougars which eat 1 deer weekly, now many deer are forced to wear collars. We have had cougar killed deer on our property, another person had a napping cougar on his front porch.
