Radio Free Asia (RFA) – A US State Department Psyop in Asia
Funding:
• Fully funded by the US government through USAID and the US Agency for Global Media (USAGM)
• Receives over $43M annually to operate “independent journalism” projects in China, North Korea, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Cambodia
• Partners with National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and Open Society Foundations (Soros)
• Works closely with US intelligence-backed NGOs like Freedom House
What they do:
Radio Free Asia (RFA) claims to be an independent watchdog of human rights in Asia but is actually a CIA-era psychological warfare tool used to destabilize US adversaries
Major Exposures:
1. Cold War Origins – A US Government Propaganda Creation
• RFA was originally founded by the CIA in 1951 as part of Cold War psychological operations
• Its mission: Spread anti-communist propaganda in China, North Korea & Vietnam under the pretense of “independent journalism.”
• Despite claiming to be independent, RFA’s funding and editorial oversight come directly from the US government
2. Running Disinformation Campaigns Against China
• RFA is the leading media outlet spreading stories about China’s Xinjiang policies, often citing “anonymous sources.”
• In 2020, RFA published reports claiming “millions” of Uyghurs were in concentration camps—without verifiable evidence
• RFA amplified the “genocide” narrative in Xinjiang, despite leaked US government cables showing this claim was a “useful geopolitical weapon” against China
3. U.S. Election Interference in Cambodia & Myanmar
• RFA is heavily involved in backing pro-U.S. opposition movements in Southeast Asia.
• In Cambodia, RFA actively supported U.S.-backed opposition leader Sam Rainsy, who fled to France after corruption charges.
• Example: In Myanmar, RFA provided on-the-ground media support to anti-junta protesters, aligning with U.S. regime change efforts.
4. Fabricating Stories on DPRK to Justify Sanctions
• In 2019, RFA reported that North Korea had executed a senior official—which was later proven false when the official appeared alive on state TV.
• RFA routinely publishes unverifiable stories about North Korean “secret nuclear tests” to push for more U.S. sanctions.
• CIA defectors confirmed that RFA has been used to send coded messages to anti-government factions inside North Korea.
