@LaMonte Been bee keeping 15 yrs and if you want free bees research catching swarm not hard and you should be able to catch a few plus go to your county beekeepers association and get on there swarm list Craig list works too But 350 a Nuc is crazy
@ruler160 Great suggestions . It was my first year. I had a robber bee issue late summer that really weakened my hive going into winter. It took me a bit to figure out what was happening and how to stop it. Combine that with the hive stand settling a bit in the back corner which caused melted snow from the landing board to run back into the hive floor. I believe it was a death by a lot of little issues on a weak hive. I am joining a local bee keepers group. I could use a lot of advice. I do love it though.

I am looking for a recipe to make honey by boiling clover blossoms. My grandmother made it for my father when he was a child. Any information?
Answer
The best recipe we know is to get a beehive. Only Mother Nature can make a tree, and only a bee can make honey. But we do have a recipe for red clover syrup from a reader. Use 4 cups of flowers, 4 cups of water and 4 cups of sugar. Bring the flowers to a boil, then simmer them for 15-20 minutes. Cover the pot and let sit overnight. In the morning strain the liquid into another large pot and squeeze the clover to get all the “juice” out. Add sugar and simmer on stove until the liquid is reduced to the right consistency. Add some boiled beet juice (not pickled beets) to add color and make it look more like real pancake syrup.
Note: Red clover has blood-thinning and other health properties. Be sure to consult with your physician before using.

@WST Howdy. I listened to Adams' emergency podcast this afternoon. I found it educational. I might not have listened to everything as closely as you did. When I'm listening just for myself, I tend to tune out things I'm not interested in but tune in again when the topic changes. For me, the gold thingies he showed us after his podcast gives hope for many. Oh, I do remember Adams advised we be careful for this month; I forget his exact wording because I"m multi-tasking.
