These two verses describe the same event. The only way to reconcile the apparent discrepancy is “perspective”.
When God wants to express His displeasure….He opens the door (removes the barrier) and permits Satan to inflict his worst.
The consequences parallel the whole Covid ordeal.
David was confronted by a prophet for his sin in “numbering” Israel (taking a census). He was allowed to do this, but only if he took an offering (redemption money). It was a reminder that our strength is not in numbers…..it’s in the Lord.

Think about what it means that Gods anger was with Israel, so He moved their king (not directly) to act in such a way that 70,000 would perish by plague.
I know lots here despise government, but corrupt government is a consequence a nation is handed by its own failures. It’s like a bunch of kids sitting in detention railing against “the man” (authority) for a punishment they deserve.
The best preachers in America today are not condoning this fake gov….they explore the reasons WHY it’s happening.
Repentance is almost an antiquated idea in America. What did we do?
I am not sure this principle applies here. We don't have a king who sinned... a lousy Congress maybe, corrupt alphabet agencies certainly... but if they did evil in the sight of the Lord, most don't recognize or honor the Lord they're sinning in the sight of anyway.
America didn't really get a choice like David's 3 years of famine, 3 months fleeing before enemies or 3 days of pestilence. You could say we got dealt all 3 together... pestilence (COVID), war (Ukraine) and famine (current crop & energy conditions). And it's not over yet. I don't think America is necessarily unique here -- pestilence, war & famine often walk in lockstep. Dozens of countries have experienced it.
Repentance is never a bad idea. But even more, we need to pray diligently for the gutless wonders that pose as clergy in this country.
@Fenceman tell me about it. Gutless clergy. My son is administrator of a Foursquare church here in SoCal. Up until recently I thought the pastor was a good one. Last week in his mid week service I noticed something difference. I haven't been able to put my finger on it but it didn't feel like it's good. I can only watch online and only watch on occasions. I'm a SDA and my son isn't.
